New Delhi, February 24: V A N Namboodiri, convenor, Joint Forum and general secretary, BSNLEU has issued the following statement:
BSNL EMPLOYEES OBSERVE BLACK DAY
The three lakh executive and non-executive employees of BSNL observed 'Black Day' today (24th February, 2009) demanding a final decision on the absorption of ITS officers in BSNL. The employees wore black badges and organized demonstrations in front of offices participated by hundreds of workers in all SSAs (Districts) in the country.
The call to observe "Black Day" was given by the Joint Forum of BSNL Associations / Unions of Executives and Non-executives. While the three lakh executive and non-executive employees are absorbed in BSNL w.e.f. 1st October, 2000, the ITS officers numbering about 1200 or so, who are the senior managers of the company are yet to be absorbed in BSNL. They still continue as DoT (government) employees and are on deputation to BSNL. This has resulted in a dual policy of absorption which is not acceptable. Further this unhealthy situation has seriously and adversely affected the development and growth of BSNL, as these officers who are to lead the system have lack of commitment as they don't belong to BSNL. While it is compulsory for the Chairman and Directors to opt for BSNL through technical resignation from government, most ITS officers are still on deputation.
The lunch hour demonstration in Delhi was conducted in front of Bharat Sanchar Bhawan, the Corporate Office of BSNL, participated by hundreds of workers. Com. V.A.N. Namboodiri, Convenor, Joint Forum of BSNL Unions / Associations, Prahlad Rai, A.A. Khan, Satyanarayana, Zile Singh and other leaders in their speeches stressed the need of early absorption of ITS officers for the sake of BSNL.
