In response to Pranab Mukherjee's statement on the Left Front Government in West Bengal, Nirupam Sen, Polit Burea Member of the CPI (M) and Industries Minister of the Government of West Bengal said:
People of the country expected that a senior leader like Pranab Mukherjee would present the report card of his Government at the Centre which according to its own admission has a record of keeping 77 percent of the population below a daily expenditure of Rs. 20.
Instead the senior Minister chose to target the Left Front Government thereby showing that for the Congress Party it is the politics of the Left, not that of the communal BJP, which it wants to target.
His expression of concern for Bengal rings hollow in the context of his party's 'mahajot' which includes all those who obstruct all development programmes in Bengal, including the use of violence.
